History

2004-2010

Decembers Fall landed in the NYC music scene during the early 2000s rock rebirth, playing CBGBs, The Knitting Factory and Don Hills when venues were still integral to the independent music scene. The Decembers Fall sound was brash, new, commanding, and loud, dovetailing into the popular fusion of alternative and metal genres, gaining popularity in the clubs and MySpace, building a fanbase with over 40k dedicated listeners.

201o - 2015

By 2015, NYC's alternative and metal scenes had evolved significantly, reacting to the internet's complete reshaping of music culture and shifting taste in the underground. NYC saw a metal renaissance, with Decembers Fall contributing to the popularity of atmospheric, alternative and progressive metal both locally and globally, and amassed 5000 fans and followers on Facebook.

2015 - 2020

From 2015 to 2020, the band had to reckon with a hyper-digitized, Spotify-dominated industry that prioritized algorithmic playlists and global reach. They responded by going even harder, pushing the boundaries of sound while being even more committed to NYC's increasingly fragmented but deeply rooted live music and DIY culture.

2020 - Present

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted everything: venues shuttered, tours paused, so, like other musicians, Decembers Fall turned to livestreaming to reach listeners and fans and developed their sound further. By 2025, both Decembers Fall and NYC were more defiant, centered, and engaged with music than they’d been in decades.
